Open letter to Ben Fertic, President World Triathlon Corporation (WTC)

Dear Sir,

after Nina Kraft’s positive doping test at Ironman Hawaii in 2004, we, the German Long Distance pro triathletes have introduced the so-called “elite-passport”, a voluntary membership allowing the participation in the national out-of-competition doping control system, financed jointly by the athletes and the NADA (National Anti Doping Agency).

German pro triathletes, the German Triathlon Federation (DTU), and the NADA have demonstrated a well-organized and quick joint-effort in the implementation of the elite-passport. During its first year in application, this system has proven to be very successful in the fight against doping. All doping tests during 2005 – all of which included testing for Epo – have been negative. The voluntary athlete group is comprised of Ironman World Champions Faris Al-Sultan, Normann Stadler, Thomas Hellriegel along with 73 other German top triathletes.

The current elite-pass system underlies the WADA Code. Taking into account the successful implementation in Germany and the much appreciated desire of the WTC for a doping free sport of triathlon, we would like to be proactive and propose

that the WTC accepts the WADA code.
that it is mandatory for all pro athletes racing WTC sanctioned events to join an out-of-competition test system comparable to the one in Germany.
that drug testing will take place at all WTC sanctioned events.

For further explanation, Dr. Augustin, an executive from NADA, would be happy to present to you the German anti doping system, and in particular the “elite-passport”.

Das hab ich in der Form bei slowtwitch gesehen. Sind das schon alte Semmeln, oder ist das erst kuerzlich zu Stande gekommen? Ich sitze hier irgendwie am Ende der Leitung, also ihr, die ihr da am Anfang der Leitung sitzt, erzaehlt doch mal. Stimmt das? Was hat das damit auf sich?

Es geht um eine kürzlich entstandene Forderung der dtschen Top-Athleten, dass weltweit die Dopingkontrollen auf das deutsche Niveau gehoben werden sollten.
